Just a question, if you wake you wake up at 4:30am, at what time do you go to sleep? How much sleep should an earlier riser get?

My method:

I am an ethical vegan, and I convinced a friend and co-worker of mine to do a 30-day challenge with me. She would eat a vegetarian diet and I would wake to my alarm without snoozing and get into work earlier. We would compare difficulties and support each other. Then when my alarm goes off, and I try to roll over onto my husband to cuddle a little longer, he'll say "better get up, you don't want Dani to eat chicken today!" What a gross and motivating thought! Even though our respective challenges don't work that way - one persons failure won't justify the other - it still helps because I have someone else doing something that is hard for them at the same time that I can talk to. If she can it so can I.

I have no real problems being an early riser (5am) on weekdays, the problem I have is doing the same on weekends. I have great intentions, I set out my bike gear etc. and I naturally wake up @ 5am, however, I usually go back to bed because I was out late the night before (11pm or midnight). Would I be better off getting up @ 5am and then later have a 1 hour nap later? I just find when I go back to bed, I sleep more than eight hours and I feel the day is already wasted.
How do you handle a partner who is a night owl and you want to be an early riser?

I am loving the idea of waking earlier to enjoy my day more, and to get more done. Now I wake at 630 am 4 days a week for work (530 every second week when my cleaners are coming in order to tidy up for them - if you ever had a cleaner you'd understand) and 900 am on Sundays for church at 10.

But on days like today when I don’t have to get up, I sleep in. Today I even set the alarm, far from my bed, in the bathroom, really loud on a news/interest radio station (all talk, no soothing music) but this morning, I lay sleeping off and on for an hour and a half, thinking “oh, that's interesting”...snooze... etc. ¬Next time I’ll have to remember to use the alarm function which is blaring and I have to get up to shut off the noise.

That won’t work on work mornings though, I won’t want to wake my husband (and lose the “alone” time). I could put my cell phone alarm under my pillow, I guess.

Also, I will need to develop a morning routine to get me going...plus have something to look forward to doing.

Thank for the tips! I've always had a problem with waking up early. Perhaps these tips will solve my problem of pressing the snooze button multiple times.

I suggest stretching out very far the moment you get up. Not only does it wake you up (a little) but something about stretching after not moving for 8 hours feels really good!
