I feel we all forget to slow down and enjoy our family and friends and enjoy nature around us. we dont really know how lucky we are until we loss those most precious in our lives, that brings it home how we spend time on the wrong things.

now I understand why my Swedish roommate is so laid back... (I'm American)
and she takes so long to eat and to get out the door.
But it makes more sense now. ah.
and just yesterday morning she was telling me to slow down when I drink my water... haha.

I realized immediately when I was directed toward this site that this might be the answer to my prayers.

I am a woman who moved to the country and built my own home with my husband, and our own four hands, and have never missed city life for a minute. The stress level here is so much less than when we were city dwellers, and often my only thought is that I feel guilty for not doing more, while all my friends are running in circles trying to meet deadlines and chauffeur their children from one activity to another.

I often wonder how far out of synch with what is peaceful we are going to go before everything is completely lost to us. It is ironic, and I have always felt so, that men and women both spend more of their waking hours at work then they spend in the magnificent homes they are working to own.

Children are being sent off to babysitters and day care centers instead of being raised by their parents, who are of course sacrificing a lot to earn the money to pay for everything... and it has unfortunately become a necessity, rather than a want.

I wish everyone could see life backwards just for an hour, to see what I can now see so clearly. Live life more simply, eliminate clutter, raise your children well. In the end, it is all that matters.

I slow down by telling myself a lie when I am trying to get to an appointment or any where for that manner. I say out loud to myself "I have all the time in the world," and I repeat it about six or seven times. My ears hear it and my mind reacts to it and I feel 10 to 20% better. My nerves quiet down and I just stay with the present moment. Try it. Fake it until you make it.

A sociology professor once told me, if Americans today were content with living a 1950's lifestyle (one car, smaller houses, etc) Americans would only have to work 20 hr work weeks to maintain their lifestyle. Makes you think with all this pressure to 'keep up with the Jones' when do we have time to enjoy the payoff of our hard work??? We don't we're too busy working. A bit ironic...
