Read more.
The idea bringing your notebook or PDA, is to established something new that came across our head without thinking about it, it's like enlightenment and combination of intuitive mind, so you have to write down those ideas and make it work into our habits and systems, it will work I believe this is the method of Old Priest Zen, when they want to merge the mindset of Martial Ways of sword into combination of mind of Zen Priest.

[...] 1 collect. Habit: ubiquitous capture. Carry a small notebook (or whatever capture tool works for you) and write down any tasks, ideas, projects, or other information that pop into your head. Get it out of your head and onto paper, so you don’t forget it. This is the same as GTD. [...]

I use a cell phone and call my own voicemail when I don't have my notebook in hand. I like using a big composition book for serious thinking, but it is too much to carry with me at all times. I used to have a moleskine, but many times it is too much also. My cell phone I *always* have, and my voicemail is a container I check often. I used to use jot to send myself an email via cell phone, but why pay?

Thanks for the site, Leo. It's much appreciated.

I have a question that has been raised in passing by others. As I understand it you collect 'to dos' in a notebook then process these to dos into lists. Then in a further step you scan those lists daily to make yet a third daily to do list. This means the same piece of information is being handled three times.

Why not simply divide the notebook into various list categories and make a decision on the fly as to which category your idea should go into. This would cut out downloading from the notebook and possibly even remove the need for a daily list.

Am I overlooking something in the process here?

There is a new service called JOTT that is currently in beta. It allows you to call and verbally jott down about a minute's worth of speech. It transcribes what you said and keeps track of it. It provides a great interface, including a way to jott to a to-do list, your blog, etc. I have put it on speed dial and eschewed the small notebook for quick notes.

As an engineer, I still keep engineering notebooks for longer cognitive expansions, but to capture things while I am on the go, it's jott [dot] com.
