After years of throwing money away on rent, I cashed out an IRA and bought a double-wide trailer and the lot under it for around 35 large cash. If you aren't concerned about keeping up with the Joneses and are willing to commit to staying within your means, you can be free of rent or mortgage payments. It's a nice, clean place and my neighbors are mostly retirees. After 10PM, it's quiet around here- VERY easy to get used to! I'm getting a full night's sleep for the first time in years! My mental and physical health has improved tremendously, and you can't put a price on that. Of course, I have homeowner's insurance and pay property taxes- together they amount to about what I was paying for 4 month's rent downtown. The feeling of freedom is absolutely exhilarating- it's not fancy, but it's MY home, free and clear! Re: #9-
