Re: Saving on Groceries:
One useful tip for leftovers.
When you make dinner at home and there are leftovers, dont just put them right into the fridge. Instead, portion them out into bowl size plastic lidded containers as whole meals. This makes them much easier to grab, re-heat and eat for lunch later. And if you have a lot left over, freeze some of them.

I’m upset that the first 11 out of 20 tips on reducing your petrol consumption weren’t “Ride your bike to work”, “Ride your bike to work”, “Ride your bike to work”, “Ride your bike to work”, “Ride your bike to work”, “Ride your bike to work”, “Ride your bike to work”, “Ride your bike to work”, “Ride your bike to work”, “Ride your bike to work” and “Ride your bike to work”.

@Brent: Actually, I agree with you, but somehow I doubt that my editor would have accepted a list like that. :)

I’ll be building my first custom computer soon and am looking forward to having a cheap but powerful box!

I recently read somewhere that UPS instituted a policy of having all their drivers only make right-hand turns since waiting to make a left causes idling, and thus, energy- and time-wastage. I was interested because my dad worked for UPS for many years, but thought this was a neat tip. Safer too! Left-hand turns are scary!

@Ruckus: Interesting … so if they need to go left, they would make three right turns instead? Or do they just plan out their routes so that they only need to go right (like go in a circle route)? Very interesting.

That DVD one is awesome! Right on, thanks for these… going to be saving lots and lots of money now! Though it’ll be a catch… I’ll save more money so that I can in turn spend it on other stuff later… That’s how the world works! :P

I found this website, http://www.parabu.com
The website offers price protection policies from local store retailers and online retailers where I purchased items, and they have sent me alerts to notify me that the price of my purchased items have dropped within the time frame of the retailers….It’s a great idea for those who want to save money. Makes sense. It should be added to the 106 Money-Saving Tips for a Frugal Lifestyle list.

It’s interesting that someone would assume everyone, everywhere could and should ride their bike to work. I wish I could ride my bike to work, but I would have to ride my bike to my clients’ homes, to court, to schools, to daycares, to meetings, and on top of all that I live in Alaska. Let’s keep in mind that not everyone lives in places where regular commuting is possible. Not everyone has a job where they just park their car at 8:30am and leave at 5pm. For all those other people, let’s keep the money-saving tips for them coming, the tips really help!

These are great resources. I’m really looking for ways to save as much as possible and cutting back on my grocery spending has helped tremendously! We’re being much more aware of what we purchase - and what we eat - now.

These are all good tips. But one is needed for healthcare. I go to http://www.dentalpricecompare.com to find out prices for dental procedures in my area. Then i can know if my dentist is trying to pull a fast one, and what my treatment is actually supposed to cost.

Angela, I actually found a better site than the dental one you listed. Try http://www.smarthealthbuyer.com. It not only gives you dental prices, but also prices for chiropractic, massage, optical, and cosmetic surgery based off your zip code

Great collection of “X way to save” lists.
On the electric bill, one big one that’s missed is for those that live in states that have deregulated electricity. Find out if your state has. If so, various electric companies can compete for your business, in the same way that they do today for DSL internet access.

Great list! I’ve found myself following quite a few of these already and a few of them I’m going to start following. I just created a new website called saversecrets.com that lets people share money saving tips as well and track how much they are saving. Check it out, I’m sure our members will be consulting your list.

Go PREPAID on your cell phone plan and get rid of the monthly “surprise” bill. I’ve gone from $120 /mnth to $25 and just realized I was really throwing away $$ by using minutes I didn’t really need.

On your fourth area, 11 Tips for Saving Money on Eating Out, I can reduce the 11 to 1… DON’T. :) Of course the fast food places and restaurants aren’t going to want to hear that, but if you do eat out, the tip to have water instead of soda or alcohol is a big one… but is a nice dinner without a glass of wine really a nice dinner? :) I’d rather eat out less often but still have the wine. ~ steve booth
