I run early in the morning (4:30) through the town I live in and it helps me prepare for the day both mentally and physically. Even though I've been out of the Army since 2000, I still run with the US Army Infantry cadence (which can be found on Amazon.com) on my iPod which helps maintain my rhythm and focus.

Another great post, thanks!

this is actually the reason I got into running, it's incredible for mental health, and get's you physically healthy as a side benefit. also the more you run, the easier it is to contemplate and concentrate on your form, therefore making the run more efficient and pleasant.

it's not how fast you go, it's how far.

If you are not a Zen Buddhist, why do you use the name "Zen Habits."

Do you think a non-Christian would name his blog "Jesus Habits"?

Running is a good way of exercise. But you must rhythm your breathing while running to avoid breathing problem, specially when you are asthmatic. I suggest that you can do breeze walking instead of running. It's a walking in a slowly form. And be sure to bring water when you decide to run to avoid dehydration. Thank you

I like the post and can see using running for meditation. Although when I run I'm normally trying to distract myself from thinking about my breathing because I'm asthmatic. The more I think of my breathing the more it feels constricted. I like running with a girlfriend of mine because we play kid games of racing to the stop sign and racing back, or singing kid songs with hand and arm movements.
