This is just a personal note to you guys … last night, my boss and a man I considered a friend died unexpectedly. He underwent surgery on Monday, was recovering well, then went into shock.

I am in shock. I still can’t believe it’s true.

My boss was Tony Unpingco, a Senator (and former Speaker) of the Guam Legislature … and the longest-serving senator in Guam history. He was first elected in 1976. He was a true statesman.

More than that, he was a good man, one of integrity. He was 65, and he left behind a wonderful wife and 10 kids. He touched the lives of thousands of people over the years, and he had a generous heart.

I will miss him.
