This is such a HUGE topic! I recently went through making a radical career change & got all of the same garbage you're talking about. And that's exactly what it is! GARBAGE! Look at the results of those naysayers!
I actually lost my best friend and had to refuse to take phone calls or communicate with friend and family that I love for weeks just to protect my dream!
You have the power! That power is the power to choose! YOU get to choose your thoughts, beliefs, dreams, and who you surround yourself with!
Find and learn about people who HAVE taken the road "less traveled" and plant them firmly in your mind. Imagine a whole army of them standing behind you when you are faced with those naysayers (even when it's you!). Imagine how absurd the concept of electricity once was! Imagine what people would have said just 20 years ago if you had told them you were going to create a gps, or cell phone, or ipod! NONE of those things were "realistic!".
On the flip side, the idea that the real estate market or banking industry would ever collapse was unrealistic not so long ago too! So, that word has no relevance whatsoever! Ask people what they regret most in life, and it will almost ALWAYS be something that they did NOT do! You are not alone! This is something so many people are going through right now! In fact, I'm inspired by you because I recently chose to organize a conference for young aspiring "entrepreneurs" ages 9 & up (http://www.yesseminar.com) so that they can be inspired and empowered to "be UNrealistic!" Your post just reinforces and reaffirms that even more! Thanks for sharing! You gave me even more encouragement and energy to charge on! :)

I like what Tim Ferris says about naysayers.

"Ignore them...unless they have already done what you are trying to do." (Not an exact quote.)

I can't tell you how many times I have been told that I can't do what something. People like to live and play small. Ok, so let them. Not me. I like to live and play BIG!

Thanks,

Josh
