Leo Interviewed on Blogging by Darren Rowse of ProBlogger
Darren Rowse, the wonderful blogger of ProBlogger and other blogs, has given me the honor of an interview … about blogging and writing the Zen To Done e-book.
You can read it here:
Creating an eBook to Make Money Blogging - An Interview with Leo Babauta
It was interesting reflecting on what I do here at Zen Habits, and how I’ve tried to make it a success. Just in case I haven’t said it yet, I’m extremely grateful for all of you guys … you’ve made creating Zen Habits a daily joy.
As a note on the e-book: The response from you guys about the book has been overwhelming! The sales have vastly exceeded my highest hopes, and the feedback has been purely positive and encouraging. I’m glad you’re enjoying the book! Thanks to everyone who purchased it so far. If you haven’t bought it, you can read more here.

Great interview! I’ve been following Zen Habits for about a month and really love the content. I actually also published an e-book a few months ago.
My approach was to make it available as a free download from my blog and use that as a way to attract people back for the content. Like you said, it’s not about the money; it’s about providing value to the readers. Keep it up!

Hey Leo,
Got the e-book and read it through, a great read!
Just starting to implement some of the habits and have a notebook, and have set some of my goals.
Hope to read more interesting info on the blog.

I had to thank Darren for introducing me to you and Zen Habits. I popped over here after reading one of your posts on ProBlogger. I immediately subscribed. Organization has never been my thing, but you make it simple and easy to incorporate into daily life. Now that I know you have six kids, I understand why you keep everything simple and neat! And thank you for sharing with the rest of us.

Great interview! Thanks Leo for being so candid in your writing (and interviews) and for inspiring other bloggers like myself to focus on generating tremendous value for the readers.
This hit home with me: “… solves problems my readers have”. Sometimes when we write, we can easily loose track of this, that an article is only as valuable as the problem it solves. Great reminder!
One question: Out of all your guest posts on other blogs. Which blogs gave you the biggest exposure? I’m very curious. :)
Love & Gratitude,
Tina Su

Thanks for all the nice comments, guys! I really appreciate your encouragement, as always.
@Tina: It would be hard for me to identify just one blog that has brought me the most exposure. My strategy was to start with smaller blogs when I started out, because I wasn’t that well known yet … and then work my way up to the bigger blogs.
But if I had to choose, the best guest post exposure probably came from Lifehack.org, Dumb Little Man, ProBlogger, FreelanceSwitch, Web Worker Daily and a few others.

Hey Leo,
Caught the interview over on ProBlogger, found it very interesting. Seems like you have a cool little blog going here. And hey, if you are serious about finding another volunteer designer for your next e-book, just let me know! I’d love to.

For the record Leo I found you from a guest post you did at copyblogger I think. I might be wrong though.

Hey Leo, what’s up?
Taking a bath in your ebook-money like McDuck? ;)
(no offense, being one of the most reliable bloggers around you deserve a day off!!)

Thanks Jan! Actually, I have a post coming out soon — just finishing it off.
As for the ebook money, I’m hoping to pay off my last two debts with it and become debt-free a couple months earlier than I’d hoped! So thank you, everyone who bought the book (and future purchasers, of course) … my family thanks you. :)

DARN that Darren Rowse :)
I typed up a full review of ZenHabits about 2 weeks ago and was scheduling it for the week of the grand opening of my blog. I guess if I snooze, I lose. Hopefully you’ll like my review of ZenHabits, Leo. :)

Hi Leo,
Yes, I bought the book as soon as I saw it was available: you’re one of the best bloggers out there, I think. I love the combination of practical productivity advice with deeper simplicity issues. And I’m more than happy to help someone out with their debt reduction (just wish I could do something about mine, hmph ;-)
And like everyone else, I love the site redesign. :-)
Cheers,
Alison

Interesting post. I, too, am working on a book (about my life) and have found blogging a fascinating way to explore all the nooks and cranny’s of my psyche.

I love the book. I just finished reading GTD before I bought ZTD. I like your twist on the concept much better. I need priorities to guide me. Thanks.
