...ohh and don't be too fixated about how long you keep tapping. You may only need to do it for a minute or two. At other times it may take a little longer.

I have been a long term procrastinator for nearly 60 years. I was resistant to doing almost everything, even the nice things. Peculiar really!

I put it down to my father pushing me all the time to doing more that I was capable or wanted as a kid.

Anyway, take today for example. I have a workshop/studio that I proudly bought about 3 years ago. It needed preservative treatment. You know that clear smelly stuff that gets in your eyes, drips up you arm as try and reach the high bits.

My resistant thoughts: The sun's shining. I'll leave the timber to dry out just a little bit more before doing it. I'll take the dog for another walk. Better catch a little more sun time on the recliner and top up the suntan lotion.

Get where I'm coming from?

Have you heard of the tapping technique? You get fixated on something and you just can't let it go. "I won't treat the bl**dy shed!"

Here’s the thing. Try tapping just above your eyebrow. Persistently and regularly like metronome; about 2 times per second or less. Then move the tap to just below your eye on that bit of bone and continue tapping. Revert back above the eye on the forehead.

You WILL amazingly find the inner resistant chatter reduces to nothing and the fixation diffuses and disappears altogether. You feel relaxed. That resisting tension disappears. It's somehow a similar in effect to reciting your mantra in your head during a meditation. It dilutes and demagnetises the internal chatter.

Anyway you'll be pleased to know that I've just sprayed the whole shed with preservative and with no resistance!

A similar version to my tapping technique is at:

http://www.mckenna.com/default.aspx?pid=45

(Don't worry too much about where you tap so long as you feel it and it's on a bone somewhere and near to your head area).

It really does work!

"just start" is good. but it's best to plan a finish too.

Using layering enables you to start and finish in small steps till you complete the full project.

"Just start" is one of the best bits of advice. It's often easier to change direction and make corrections once your moving.
"Starting is half done" and "ready, fire aim" are very true rules to live by.

Hi Leo,

Very interesting points on overcoming resistance. Planning out what has to be done and chunking it up if needed is essential to getting tasks completed. I just posted an article on how to get more done in your online business and have added a link to your article.
