Write To Done: Unmissable Articles About Writing, Twice Weekly
I’m excited to announce my second blog: Write To Done.
I’m hoping you’ll go and check it out, and if you’re interested, subscribe. However, not every Zen Habits reader will love Write To Done … it’s aimed at writers … from professionals to people who want to be writers or enjoy writing, bloggers, aspiring novelists and poets to freelance writers. I’m hoping a good number of you will fit into those categories, but who knows?
Write To Done is not a money-making project for me (there aren’t any ads, at least for awhile) … it’s more of an outlet for posts I’ve been wanting to write about writing and blogging. Those kinds of articles don’t fit in well here at Zen Habits, and I really don’t have a good outlet. So this is it.
It’s also a way for me to share what I’ve learned in 17 years of being a professional writer, what I’ve learned in getting a book deal, what I’ve learned as a professional and fairly successful blogger, and what I will learn as I complete my first published book.
Just some of the topics I’ll be covering:
1. The habit of writing.
2. Freelance writing.
3. Blogwriting.
4. Writing fiction.
5. The business of writing.
6. Writing tools.
7. Productivity for writers.
8. Journalism.
9. The craft of writing.
There are a number of articles on there, and that number will be growing as the year progresses. I’ll be posting twice weekly, so you don’t need to worry about your feed reader being overwhelmed by subscribing. I might post an occasional link post or announcement, but mostly it’ll just be two feature posts a week.
Here are the articles up so far:
Edit to Done: Revision and the Art of Being Concise
How to Write First Thing in the Morning
Short Stories: The Art of the Start
Writer’s Dilemma: Your Art vs. Paying the Bills
10 Steps to Create the Habit of Writing
How to Write Without Distractions
I hope you enjoy it, as it’s a work of love. Support my new blog by subscribing — and if you’re a blogger, share it with your readers! Thanks everyone!

Great! I actually missed those articles over here. You did some of them in the past and they were very helpful for me as a beginning blogger and beginning writer for that matter.
I love the feedcounter with 1 subscriber! I just doubled it up :)
Good luck on the project and I’ll be over there a lot probably.

Lol - yeah, I’m the 1 subscriber. It actually won’t update until later tonight, but I’m hoping it’ll jump by a dozen or so. :)
Thanks for subscribing guys! I look forward to your participation over there as well.

Hi Leo,
I only recently came across Zen Habits and I’m loving it! I, too, have quit the outside work world and really need help getting something done at home. Every day feels like a vacation day!
I am excited about Write to Done. Writing and editing are what I do so I am looking forward to your words of wisdom.
Thanks!
Marie

Looks promising and I’ll definitely keep up with it as 2008 is a year I pledge to become a full time blogger by Dec 31st (or sooner).
Congrats on the book deal also :)

Cool! As a blogger (in German) and a “long-time” reader of zen habits, I have to subscribe to your new blog. So I guess I’m #4. :-)

Congrats, Leo! I’m subscriber #5 :)
This will be a very useful resource for me; I am a blogger, I love writing in general, and my work involves lots of writing. Looking forward to many posts to come.
And, happy birthday Zen Habits!
And, congrats on your publishing deal!!
Wow, so many things to celebrate!
What I thought was really delightful reading these three posts today was that we are seeing you making your dreams come true - here on Zenhabits live! I’m so happy for you.

Love the voice of your new blog.
I’m not such a zen girl- more hyperactive and I’m quite happy that way!- so I am looking forward to articles that are more geared toward my style… but with your zen attitude. :)

I was a little skeptical when I heard you had undertook more projects. How could something match the quality of Zen Habits. After seeing it though, I am very excited.
As someone who has always been interested in writing, these new articles coming from you are what I have been waiting for. Can’t wait for more.
Keep up the great work Leo.

I will be suscribing to this when I get home. I want to write, but have no formal training in it (beyond the bare minimum English requirements in school, that is). This will be a great resource for me.
Thanks for sharing your experience and ideas!

Wow, the second blog. Good luck with that, I know how hard it is to juggle more than one blog. It’s coincidently a good topic to cover too because after tip-toeing around the issue for years, I feel my professional, organized mindset and skills have finally rise up to match my ideas and ambitions to become a writer.

Great! I found ZH two or three months ago and have been loving it. This new site is just in time for some ideas that have been stewing in my head for a while now, and I’m soon to start taking action on.
I wonder, though, if I could convince you to make available email feeds as you have here? I’m still working on the art of simplicity, and can not yet count on remembering to visit on my own (or check RSS feeds) without those notices in my inbox. ;)
Thanks for your consideration and a great blog. Your success is well-deserved.

Leo, it seems very redundant at this point, but congratulations! Given the consistently wonderful quality of Zen Habits, which I’ve been following daily for months now, so I am expecting no less from WTD. (No pressure–)
And in my humble opinion as a writer and an aspiring novelist (and possibly–eek!–soon-to-be-blogger), you couldn’t have picked a topic that interests me more!
I **think** I’ve successfully subscribed via the Google Feeder . . . I’ve never used an RSS feed before. (I subscribe to Zen Habits via straight e-mail, which doesn’t appear to be an option here.)
Anyway, best of luck and thanks in advance!!!

Hey Leo,
Gosh, that’s just what the Doctor Ordered. There are some nice writing blogs out there but they somehow lack the content what a beginner writer needs. By the way, I love listening to the Write Where you Belong Podcast. Something you could check it if you haven’t already. Steve (from Write Where You Belong) has got some amazing tips while being really hilarious about it.

Congratulations on the new blog, Leo! I have been a Zen Habits fan since I found it in April. Your blog was one of the main reasons I decided to launch my own which, strangely enough, is about writing. Writing Power aims to improve people’s written communication skills in order to improve their lives. I am an English professor, though, so it looks like we’ll be coming at the same issue from different angles.
I have added Write to Done to my blogroll. Feel free to take a look at Writing Power if you’re interested. And as always, thanks for your consistently great content.
Cheers,
Loren Blinde

I’m running late but must say, as all the folks abouve, that it’s a GREAT idea. What I’ve read so far is right on.
And that’s the opportunity to thank and congratulate you about Zen Habits, a blog I discovered by chance surfing technorati and which have been on my top list ever since.
Have you ever considered running translated versions in any other languages ? I’m French and would be happy to help ?
Anyway, thx again :)

Wow. I just stumbled on Zen Habits this past weekend through a link on the GTD forum, and have been really enjoying the pared-down and more practical application of ZTD. And now this. I feel like I’ve found Nirvana! LOL
I have been a wannabe writer for most of my life, since getting encouragement from an English teacher in high school. This new blog of yours just might be the catalyst that gets me to actually DO something about it.
I’ll be spending lots of time on both your bogs. Thanks!
