I'm surprised and disappointed at the content and tone of the interview. I've read and benefited from several of Covey's books (7 Habits, First Things First, Principled Leadership) but his comments on GTD are petty and quite ironic given the lack of substance in the 8th Habit.

As many of us know, Covey's early material and Allen's GTD are very complementary (Covey being top down shedding real light on 50 to 20K view thinking and the real importance of a weekly review, Allen providing a real roadmap with a very useful bottom-up perspective) and if pressed on which was the more sophisticated, would have to recommend GTD as it manages to be a complete system without being proscriptive.

[...] Exclusive Interview: Stephen Covey on His Morning Routine, Blogs, Technology, GTD and The Secret | ... Covey: I make an effort every morning to win what I call the “private victory.” I work out on a stationary bike while I am studying the scriptures for at least 30 minutes. Then I swim in a home pool vigorously for 15 minutes, then I do yoga in a shallow part of the pool for 15 minutes. Then I go into my library and pray with a listening spirit, listening primarily to my conscience while I visualize the rest of my entire day, including important professional activities and key relationships with my loved ones, working associates and clients. I see myself living by correct principles and accomplishing worthy purposes. One of my favorite quotes is, “The greatest battles of life are fought out every day in the silent chambers of one’s own soul.” (David O. McKay) Much of this listening and visualizing work is very challenging, so I win the private victory when I have made my mind up and commit to live by correct principles and to serve worthy purposes.
-Earl Nightingale's 'The Strangest Secret' talks quite clearly about what is most important to you and how to achieve it.

-Anthony Robbins' book 'Notes from a friend' has a chapter on 'the power of questions' which relates to how to keep your mind focused on what you want, the important things and staying positive in general

-Jim Rohn talks even more about how you can monitor how yo spend your time and if it's not used wisely, asking yourself: 'is this action taking me where I want to go?'

-Covey's time matrix shows people how to 'schedule your priorities'

And GTD finally tells us how we can actually 'get things done'

As in most cases, a hybrid/amalgamation of various methods can work better than just the one method whilst rubbishing the others.
Having a go at successful people who get the time to do what they want like reading scripture underwater, (whatever we might think about it) is petty, narrowminded and totally missing the point. Disagree with their methods for how to get there sure, but don't get personal.

Just a thought

hi guys,
practicing seven habits is not at all easy.we cant combine them and do it at once.we must take the habits one by one and slowly build up and incorporate the next habit. by the time we finish with all our seven habits you would have almost lived your life.Of all the practical approaches to life coveys book is the best one.
