I have just one question in my head - what happens when you zen people face something really shocking or tragic? i don't know.. harsh violence against yourself for example. where do you stick your positive thinking then?
I agree to 99% of this post and the whole zen, but there is one very important thing missing without which bad things can happen. there must me at least some sadness between the bad thing and the positive thinking. some grief. because if you do not connect with your pain, with your painful experience and switch to the positive thinking immediately, the grief will act in a hidden form and will come back later but in a much bigger size and danger to your happiness. be with your pain and only then try to get rid of it. I is my experience (after a big long mistake of immediate positive thinkig) and the experience approved by many experts. there's a great film about it - the art of negative thinking. so my addition to this post is - face your bad, accept it and then move on positively.

Christina Ann - regarding loving your enemy. My tip is to think of them as a baby or a child - what they were before life and bad decisions made them into what they are to be your enemy. It is a process but perhaps it will help?
