I know this is an old post, but I just wanted to say how true it is. I used the Kaizen method to start running: I started running only 5 minutes at a time, even though I was pretty sure I could do 10, and I extended that by no more than 20 or 30 seconds each time I went running, even though at the end of 2 weeks I already knew I could advance faster. That meant that what I was doing always felt easy from the emotional standpoint, even though I was continually pushing my boundaries just a tiny bit to extend my abilities from a fitness standpoint. I'm now running 1.5 miles faster and with more ease than I used to be able to run 1 mile - and I've built up the habit because it's too easy to skip!

I'm still trying to figure out how to apply Kaizen to other goals that I want to work on, but for me it was definitely a "success-guaranteed" method! Thanks for the quality content, Leo!

Dica aprendida no ZenHabits. [...]

The concept of making small changes over time in order to establish new habits has been around for a very long time. My problem with it is this - while it may be physically easier to, for example, wake up one minute earlier every day, there is this little voice in my head saying, "waking up one minute earlier every day for a month is all very well, but at the end, you'll still be waking up half an hour earlier anyway," and my mind rebels; the change - even in small increments - just doesn't happen. How do you get around this psychological block?

Hmpf,

am I the only one to notice that the name of the author of the referenced work is M. J. Ryan, not "Andy Ryan"?

What kind of journalism is this?
You seemingly don't even know how to properly quote the NYT article correctly.
