Why NOT to quit email but rather educate the people surrounding you...

There are several experiments out there currently which promote that the solution to email problems is to quit it totally.
Since I do not agree on the motives exploited because of the fact that most of them are based on convenience I took a closer look...

Very interesting post!

I also would like to share what I learned from one of the blogs of http://www.bizsum.com which says that "In this networked and exceedingly fast-paced world we live in, email is indispensable. However, if faced with having to manage too many emails, our productivity can suffer as a result."

So, don't become all your email!

For many of the reasons already listed above (i.e. more personal communications, less distractions, so on) I could leave email behind. However, for work it has become indispensable to me. I have learned to ignore most of my emails while using my iPhone except from work because I use SMS to notify me of any work messages. May seem redundant but it works great.

Well I have done it before, cutting off email. I was on vacation with my family and we didn't have internet so i couldn't check my email. Only about every 3 to 4 weeks, always only for an hour in an internet cafe near us. Thats saying something for a 16 year old girl like me, trust me. It was great but i always had that silly nagging feeling to check it, after all checking my email sort of became like a reflex or something. But now i can't stop checking it because when i was able to check it back then, I had over 100 emails!! That was painfull, having to read almost everything (about 30% of the emails were spam). But i have to say, It was a little bit pleasurable, being away from the computer, except i missed too many Anime episodes. :)

Well my dad is computer illiterate so he doesn't use email, but he's alive, healthy, and happy. He seems more than content to rely on the traditional face-to-face communications.

So it's not the end of the world...

I could give up email and even mobile phones in a heartbeat - which is really weird coz I'm considered to be the techie of the family.

I went on holiday last week (just a break - 4 nights away), and didn't even look at my phone, and only opened my laptop to back up my CD card from my camera (took too many photos). I wasn't even tempted to go online!

I was very reluctant to get back online and deal with the email when I got back.
