Leo, this looks like a really great strategy for running a marathon, I wonder will it be useful for learning how to jump higher?

Congratulations Leo! I ran my first marathon last July and am training towards the same one this year.

Your thoughts on eating, training and attitude towards running the marathon have been very helpful.

Well done Leo, great time too.

I can really relate to this. I did a half marathon back in 2004 and pushed myself to finish in under 2hrs, did it in 1:59 and then felt underwhelmed when I crossed the line. I did the same race last year (2008) and this time thought lets enjoy this one. So I did, I smiled most of the time around but more importantly took time to observe my fellow runners, even waiting to see if some needed help while I was running. I crossed the finish in 2:03 but in reality I enjoyed the race this time much more than the first time. I was having fun rather than taking it too seriously and losing the point of running in the first place.

Consequently this year I am running to half marathons a week apart followed by a triathlon in June and all for charity. And you know what I will enjoy every minute of it and not taking it too seriously other than the fund raising.

Hey Leo:

I ran Honolulu last week too! Congrats on a great race with really tough and wet conditions...the first half for me was good, but then I got some blisters going in my right WET shoe and that really changed my strategy. I did Chicago Marathon before in 3:45 but Honolulu got me and it was 5:30ish. My legs tightened up tremendously for the last 8 or so miles and I was happy to finish!!

Thanks for the mantra ideas as I will try next year when I take Honolulu on again. It was fun overall though, kind of crazy how that works out.
I agree, Hawaii is a magical place, even in the urban areas with such diversity of people and beauty. I think that even changing a flat tire in Hawaii would even be fun!!

By the way, my work takes me to Guam quite a bit and I love Guam and the other Western Pacific islands a lot. American Samoa in the South is amazing as well.
I'm lucky to be able to be in that part of the world often and have gained so much from the people and cultures out there.
Be well.
