Twitter has, as a matter of fact, made my work day so much more efficient. If I ever need a design question answered I just post it to Twitter and within five seconds I have a solution. Its as good as Google for research.

As with any tool, the key is to know what you are using it for and how much time you attribute to using it. Getting distracted by Twitter is so easy. So unless you have the discipline to work through this, you should only use Twitter for fun and pleasure.

It's my policy to twit only after I've written my post. It's my reward for getting things done.

On my non-posting days - I write every other day - I spend lots of time on Twitter. How is it related to getting things done? I'm compiling great post ideas I find through interesting links that get twitted about. The time line of conversations is a great source of blog inspirations as well.

Sending DM in Twitter to online friends gets faster response - even faster than IM and of course emails. Twitter helps you in brainstorming - we can only think so much and only as far as our brain will allow us. Twitting your queries is a great option. And so does sending trial balloons of sorts or mini polls - of course you've covered this already. :)
