This is a wonderful post of you Leo. It reminds me to my grandparents that are still alive, I'm thankful having them in my life.

Wish you all the best.

I just saw this, Leo. My condolences on your grandfather's passing. what a gift to have him in your life all these years. I would say you are already doing quite well building a similar legacy. You influence lives for the better each day, certainly every time you blog.

Congratulations to you and your family on your move. How wonderful you can walk to the stores rather than drive. All the best.

Leo, I just finished your book last night (heard about it on a blog), and am now checking out your blog for the first time. I am so excited that you're on Guam and are Joe Murphy's grandson! I lived on Guam for four years after college, and loved it. I wrote for the PDN and the Guam Business Journal and was a regular reader of Joe's column. I am sorry to hear of his passing. Your description of his memorial is beautiful.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather, Leo. I met him a few times, and felt somewhat intimidated because he was so well respected. You know, I was running out of the office and was given the link to this page. Your eloquence and mastery of the word made me sit and read, and forget about why I have to rush from here to there. Keep up the great work and let me know when your first book comes out. Tell your mom hello.

Joe was everything that Leo described. I had the pleasure of knowing him for a long time.

One mark of a great writer is his/her ability to listen. Joe had that, and so does Leo. You're always looking for the next angle or story line, and some people just know that you find them out of the mouths of others, not your own.

Though Joe was quite a bit older than me and very well established, he never talked down to me or tried to glorify himself. It wasn't his way. We just talked — rarely about business — mostly about life and some of the characters who made it interesting.

Joe was, in essence, a blogger for his time. He knocked out five posts a week and his niche was life in Guam. He was extremely good at it.

I'm sure that Joe took great pride in Leo's work, and must have marveled at the idea that his grandson's daily audience is far greater than that of the newspaper he worked on for so long.

Leo -

Thank you for sharing the beautiful story of your grandfather. It sounds like he lived the kind of life that so many of us aspire to. May the good memories of your times with him carry you.

Best of luck in your move.Your new environment sounds wonderful!

Leo, thanks for the story about your Granddad. Makes me remember the great person my Granddad and Dad were.

I love living near the city. Everything I need is within 15mins of where I live. I've got to suffer the noise and air pollution though, which can get awful.

I am intrigued by your move. I have been talking to my SO about downsizing (to which he says I am nuts), but we have so much space, filled with so much stuff... maybe that is what is making me nuts! :)
