I’m somewhat in a similar situation to you but I’m trying to simplify the whole process quite a bit. From my perspective, if I’m truly “passionate” about what I’m doing (because it connects with me deeply and meaningfully in some way) then motivation is very rarely a factor because when you’re doing something that you’re truly passionate about, you basically can’t wait to dig your claws into it. Therefore in my situation, it’s not figuring out ways to be inspired or motivated, it figuring out what I’m truly passionate about. Once I figure that out, I figure I’m 80% of the way there (i.e. 80/20 rule).

For example, I know what I’m skilled at from a technical standpoint (i.e. left brain skills). This is the easy part, as clients usually tell me this already. Thus doing things like web design, usability consulting, information architecture, and so on almost come naturally to me when I truly connect with a client. The problem is that none of these things individually define what I truly do as a whole (i.e. right brain) and even more so, they don’t define what I’m truly passionate about. I mean I’ve helped a lot of clients with their sites successfully and in a way that is attuned with my values (i.e. helping them be honest in relaying their primary message, etc) but again the “passion” is still the missing ingredient.

Monthly goals... and... 10 minute a day... will really benefit everyone in steering towards a better life...

I have a mild stammering... I stopped my speech therapy exercises for a long time... My 30 day challenge will be to get back on track... to do my speech exercises for at least 10 minutes a day... ;-)

The power of goals really is amazing. What may seem like just a minor change in your life can improve your life in huge ways!

This is easy. To do something that feeds my soul every day. Sitting, meditating, reading, walking, looking at nothing, looking at a tree, drawing - anything other than sit at my computer and work, or clean or cook. One habit - terrific idea. Thank you, Sarah

Agree that Groundhog Day is as good a day to make a resolution as New Year's eve, or even better as there hangover is most likely much smaller :)

I make resolutions all the time, some important and some silly. A while back thought maybe there are more people like this and co-founded Pledgehammer.com that's been live for a month now. It makes resolutions easy to share and adds a financial incentive - if you don't keep your resolution it asks to donate money to charity. Both significantly increase the odds of a resolution being successful. Try it out and see if it works for you, too.
