I agree, however, it is indeed tedious to me nice to someone who is being rude or intentionally mean.

I seems easier just to be a jerk.

Being considerate comes naturally when you are acting from "here and now", not preoccupied with past or future - being here and now opens us up on things we'd not notice otherwise.

That, and the underlying golden rule - "Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you (if you were in their shoes, that is)"

This post was just what I needed! I call myself a jerk all the time [because I'm not one to lie to myself or sugarcoat things], but I don't really know where to go from being a jerk all the time. I am currently making a gratitude journal which has helped loads. I am really lucky since my family and my amazing partner are some of the most considerate people I know.

Thank you for the post!

Oh, and I would like to add that being a homeschooling parents present way too many opportunities of acting like a jerk. We can only try.

Very nice essay.

I seem to remember that you were starting to homeschool your kids. As a fellow homeschooler, I have found that this really changes the relationship between parent and child; there becomes an intensity and intimacy that is lacking when the kids are away most of the day. That can be a challenge. I would love you to post on how homeschooling fits into your life and philosophy.

Leo,

As a sales professional, I have always tried to practice consideration. Some days it's much more difficult than others. However it's so worth it. You feel 100% better when you make some else feel better.

One of my favorite quotes is, "People will forget what you say, but they won't forget how you made them feel."

Keep up the great work. Your blog is awesome.

If you ever come to SE iowa I'd love to buy you dinner at the Bonaparte Retreat. You'd love it.

All the best,
Shawn
