A well-defined plan, properly executed, is your meal ticket to success and success lies in the smallest details. Focus serves as an absolute precondition for every success you will experience. You have to set goals about your life and career; tilt the odds in your favor for a change. This is all possible through the discipline of planning. - Paul

I agree that less commitments make for easier focus and goal setting in other more important activities. It's funny how this obvious solution is overlooked by so many families.

Dear Annette,

How you feel is the only worthwhile criterion for success. If you are happy -- congratulations -- keep doing more of the same!

Zen does not mean doing as little as possible. It means living your life with delicious awareness & enjoyment in the present moment. We are unique -- some (including me) like to have quite a few balls in the air, others thrive when they have less stuff on their to-do lists.

Lots of respect from me to you -- I was also raised by a single working mum and admire your dedication to give your boys everything they need to life exciting lives.

I am a widowed single mother of 2 young boys aged 10 and 13. I am also a doctor working fulltime 40-50 hours a week. Both my sons are gifted and have IQ in the 125-135 range and they need to have many extra curriculum activities to keep their minds busy. They both get extra tutoring in Maths and English, they have piano lessons, do TaeKwanDo, play in the 10-pin bowling league and learn Chinese.
My life is extremely complicated and chaotic. I am like a professional juggler with at least 8 balls in the air at any one time.
However, this is the only way I can fit everything in and get everything done and I am very happy the way it is.
Is it really necessary to simplify everything to achieve Zen living ?
