Great article. I have a 3yr old and my wife is due with our second any day now. Only thing i would add is balance between both parents. My wife likes to teach and I build and fix. So that my daughter knows its not dad that fixes everything, my wife helps or handles a project with my daughters help. And i can cook and pick out her clothes in the morning and now can make a perfect ponytail.

Thank you for your post. Number 1 is so true and to me it's spontaneous because I trully enjoy my four year old's company! I have opted for a part-time job instead of a "career" and still have no time for myself but I know these first years of his life are tremendously important and will not come back! I feel that he is a very balanced, happy, smart little boy. TV is limited to 45 minutes a day (after his bath) and at night we sometimes play board games which he loves. One thing I must do is work on number 2 which means practicing a little more on letting him get bored! ;)
