Hi Leo,

This article of yours has a great relevance to my LIFE. My wife always thinks and feels everything should go well according to our plans: if we planned to go for shopping some unexpected guest comes calling or some unavoidable situation comes in to stop it.
I see her go red and get panicking. In cases like that I want everyone to laugh loud and say this is what GOD wanted us instead of doing the shopping. May be HE wanted us to save money and listen to the wise counsel of the guest who dropped in. Or enjoy the company of him or her.
I used to tell her: expect the opposite of it. Never fix up your mind on ONE thing. Though we may plan give it a chance it may be altered or changed in course of time.
I tell her we're not GODs to accomplish what we thought of.
I want to simplify life. How? By leaving it to happen according to the circumstances and go by them, without actually worrying why it happened; I prefer to enjoy the sudden newness of events that are unfolding, and start enjoying things.
Of course, it's not easy to drive this thought to those who never tried taking things in their stride and people who can't wait for things.... I'm really tired telling this to her.
NOW, after reading your article I expect my wife's sudden fits of outburst on the sudden twist of things, and never get worked up at her anger.... but laugh loud. :)
Thanks for the great insights!
With no malice to my wife but with lots of LOVE for her!

I have to agree with Rich - slightly too negative for me, but still very relavent to recall when things aren't going as planned.

I prefer to expect the best, to live the best life I can - and to accept these 'annoyances' as part of the ebb and flow of how life goes. It's all about perspective.

Enlightening post nonetheless!

Some people live life with low expectations to avoid the let down but that's too negative for me. I prefer live and let live. I look at my children every day and tell myself that even if the unthinkable happened and our cities were destroyed and we had to retreat to the wilderness and live off the land... I still have my children and that is all that matters.

I can't say I would use the word expect, but understand. I think with the element of understanding we can search and see the lessons and growth within ourselves. Also if things don't go the way we planned, this is apart of life, most of the time it is a blessing in disguise.

Interesting post Leo. I have some queries.

Its one thing to accept and let go when something unexpected happens, but a different thing to always expect the unexpected. Are we being negative in a sense to always expect mis-adventure ? Doesn't this contradict with the "law of attraction" where what we expect happens ? So if we always expect the unexpected, the unexpected will always happen.

I like the phrase of seeing the Glass as already broken, but I am not sure how it fits in our lives in a positive manner.

Thanks!
