The sleep system getting better. I think sleeping more will help to lose weight and make you feel healthier. I am also going to try the MIT system to look at improving daily routines and introduce fitness regimes

I like your post, but unfortunately weight loss inevitably is a bit more complicated than simply eating real food and following your other tips. Listen, I love "real food," but I do notice that a lot of whole foods eaters are...overweight. Unfortunately, a calorie in is a calorie out. The key is to get the most efficiency and utility in that "calorie in" as possible. But at some point, calorie counting in some form does weigh into the occasion (pun is intentional). "Volumetrics" is a great book that expands on this subject (pun is intentional). And at a more leisurely level, "French Women Don't Get Fat" isn't too shabby either.

Sounds almost like Mark Sisson's Definitive Guide to the Primal Blueprint, but with a bit less detail. Go find the guide at Mark's Daily Apple.

Right now they have a 30-day primal challenge to get people to go primal. Yesterday was the crucial 2-week mark - go watch how awesome everyone is doing!!!

It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle - and it changed my life.

Chris -- you have the yin and yang backwards. Yin (not "ying," as you have it) is a calming principle; yang is an energetic one.

I am quite happy....got up on time had a chance to have breakfast before work. I am also going to try positive visualisation techniques and moderate attitude to food intake as a way of getting healthy

It is 11.35pm....i have a long busy day woke up late so did not really catch up with things until afternoon. Hopefully going to bed at the right time will help me to wake up early tomorrow.
Lets see.

I'm surprised no-one has made a reference to taking high-quality fish oil as a supplement (the only supplement I take) as this is a natural fat-burner and reduces inflammatory responses in the body (the cause of many chronic diseases). Plus the fact that our Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio in our modern diet is all out of wack anyway.

Thank you for another great bit of information. It's nice to finally have somewhere online where things make sense again.

These are very sane and reasonable rules. For most of them, they are so sane that the very fact that we have to state them is a little sad since it means we have gotten way out of touch with the obvious when it comes to our basic well-being.

I'm going to add two research-based ideas to your list, rules that would probably be at the next level up from these basic ones:

1. Discover what works for you and do it, especially in terms of what motivates you. Self-regulation is a skill not a trick, and we each have to learn how to do it based on our own given talents and resources. Research has not yet uncovered one specific set of tricks that works for everyone's well-being in the long run.

2. When considering all other rules, if you run into a conflict or total confusion, resort to moderation. The best balance point on any continuum differs from person to person, but if you are out of balance, it usually makes sense as a default rule to come back toward the middle between the extremes. There are relatively few cases where it makes sense to be at any extreme in the long run, including exercise, nutrition, and sleep.

Thanks very much for the useful rules.
