Leo,

A great post. As an entrepreneur for the last 2 years, I would heartily concur with your "Stay Lean and Small" recommendation. Additionally, when determining what you will sell to whom -- really do your homework on the demand in your area for your service. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to do what you love if no one wants to buy it!

Here is a great read and a way to get started. Try ConsultingUniversity dot com
Our economy has everyone headed toward becoming self employed even if we don't want that.

Excellent timing with this post for me Leo.

I just quit, aka retired from my teaching career at 30 - woo hoo! It has been my dream now to blog professionally and speak and write and teach to a greater audience, so here I am joining the self-employed group and I have to say it rocks! I absolutely love working from home and focusing on spreading value in the world today.

I know we are at a critical point on our planet now where so many of us are waking up to our greatest potentials ever, so this idea of freedom and working for oneself seems to make even more sense!

Thanks Leo!

Prioritising tasks and having a balance in life will help any person to organise themselves in business. Positive thinking is great aswell

This is how I started my trademarked Little Black Book~Daily Food Diary business, an e-commerce endeavor...while working first and then day job was lost to the current economic situation.

I am out of the corporate world and happy, happy, happy to me on my own...accept for the down economy when people seem to be clamoring to low cost comfort food!

Things will get better eventually so we should all hang in there!

Good luck to all of you!

Great post. It's amazing how many people are looking into being in business for themselves instead of remaining a slave to their J-O-B.

I agree, while being your own boss can be scary and a little risky, it’s not as difficult as people think.

Leo,

You challenged us to start a business and it sounds so simple and I'm sure it's lots of work. I'd like to start an online business, I have a web host, computers, and all the equipment I need but I'm not sure where to start. I tried blogging, adsense and ebay but not much success. If I can't get my blog going how in the world would I get customers from an online retail store? Any suggestions?

Hi Leo,

Trying to leave a comment on your hyperparenting article, but the comments option doesn't appear to be there - so I'm letting you know via these comments, though not sure if it will get through!

Thanks!
