Great simple post, Leo. It's a strong reminder that what we take off of our plate is just as important as what we leave on it.

The idea of having to be so efficient all the time is a product of brainwashing, and is peculiarly American.

I also find the image of working on a laptop at the beach to be repugnant. It shows how people have been mindlessly enslaved by technology and taught to think about work even on a beautiful beach.

While deleting a task that has been on your Master task list for a while can have a certain "Releasing Effect" many times I have found that I am just procrastinating.

I have come up with a little "formula" that I use to determine whether I should just cross this task off my list or whether it's important enough to get done.

Thanks again for a great article!

I like the rethoric of it, it's very artsy. This is one of my maxims in deciding not to buy an iphone, laptop and other unneccessary gadgets other than an ordinary phone and pc for my internet-based work. I keep every technology I need on my head and even try to put everything in my stuff in countable terms, meaning I keep track of all my stuff on my head so I get a picture of minimalism and get rid of the stuff that's obviously just doubling the stuff I already have and have been using. It's great strategy and works for me. Especially that I'm working in an impoverished nation. Also, I keep all my files in an online back-up. Every back up has a possibility to crash, but I have the feeling that there's no more stable back-up than an online stash sponsored by, say, Google. Or Mediafire. In such a case, the only reason I can think of that it will get lost is an Apocalypse. Which surely means no less than an end of all attempts at restoring, even that task I'm having a back-up file for.

This post reminds me that most of the stuff we think is important really not.

The closer we can get to simple basic living the happier we'll all be. As long as it doesn't involve life without Internet, of course! :)

The more we expect of ourselves and others, the more chances we create for resentments. And resentments are spiritual time killers!

Good post. Two things that have been rattling around in my noggin' for quite some time now: Making check marks simply for the sake of seeing check marks is not the point. And eliminate waste if you want to stay focused.

Right to the point, this the right way of doing things.
Before you write new item to your ToDoList check if you can doing it instead of writing it.
Don't write "call to" or "mail to", just do it.

Short and sweet.

Don't create a task for the sake of it. Keep your eye on the prize and focus on what counts!
