New E-book: The Zen Habits Handbook for Life!

I’m happy to be able to offer my second e-book, the Zen Habits Handbook for Life — it’s a series of my best articles on making your life simpler, on becoming happier, and on getting more productive.

I put this e-book together at the request of a number of readers, who wanted the essential Zen Habits articles gathered in an e-book format. I’m certain you’ll enjoy it!

What will this book teach you to do? Basically the same things that Zen Habits aims for overall: how to simplify your life, how to live a happier life, how to be more productive with less stress, how to achieve your dreams. Think of it as a little handbook for a better life, in a convenient e-book format.

Buy it here for only $6.95.

I should give a caveat: while I think these are great articles that will be of use to almost anyone, they are all available on this blog for free if you search for them. So why would you pay $6.95 for this e-book if it’s already free? I’ll be honest: if the money is an issue, you shouldn’t pay. You can search for these articles and print them out or format them yourself, and that would be the cheaper option.

However, there is definitely some value to the e-book, and I know you’ll find it worth the price. Some of the benefits of buying the e-book:

  1. Zen Habits essential articles gathered in one convenient place. No need to search or dig through the archives, print or reformat into a word processing program. That’s a significant time savings, which for you guys is extremely valuable, as your time is worth 50 times what I’m charging for the e-book.
  2. Zen Habits made portable. If you’re going on a plane ride or some other location where you need some good reading, you can take this with you anywhere, even without an Internet connection.
  3. It’s printable. This e-book has been designed for reading on the screen, and also to print out nicely.
  4. It has a nice design. I hired Charlie Pabst of Charfish Design to do this e-book and asked him to give me a very simple layout. He delivered beautifully, and I’m proud to offer this good-looking e-book to you guys. Btw, Charlie does excellent work and does it quickly — a tough combination to beat. Check out his site.
  5. It makes a good gift. Without spending a lot of money, you can give someone the gift of happiness and a simpler life by purchasing this e-book and emailing it to them. Gift-giving can’t get any easier!
  6. It’s like a donation, where you get something in return. A lot of you have been generous enough to donate to Zen Habits, allowing me to achieve my dream of blogging full-time. Those donations continue to support me and my family, but buying this e-book is a relatively painless way to donate, if you feel compelled to do so, because you get some nice reading material in return.

Here’s the table of contents:

Hi Leo. As you know I promoted your ZenToDone book on my personal development blog. I got a lot of value out of your first ebook, and out of your blog, so I will be more than happy to put my name behind this ebook as well.

I have spoken with you on several occasions, and I know you are a stand-up guy with great intentions.

To anyone on the fence about making this purchase, I want you to know that I highly recommend it!

I’d also like to put in a plug for Leo - I’ve corresponded with him a number of times regarding a number of things (he’s even been kind enough to give me feedback on my site) and each time I’ve been impressed by his friendliness and sincerity. I have no reservations about him at all!

Your blog is a great source of inspiration to me, and while I believe that you appreciate positive feedback in form of comments - I’m pretty sure you appreciate a few bucks for all the hours you’ve put into this project too.

Keep up the good work! :-)

Leo, great piece.
Haven’t been around your site for long, but what little time has been extremely beneficial to my well-being and productivity. I definitely plan on chucking down a little bit of change to add this to my e-book collection.

Also wanted to let you know about a newsreader out there that exists that bases it’s content on what the user actually WANTS to see. It’s called ‘Sprout’. Very intuitive, quickly learns what you like to read and what doesn’t interest you. There’s a free trial on now. You can find it here: http://www.yoursprout.ca.

Hey Leo

Love your blog, and am happy to support you in both buying the book and promoting it on my blog and my website. I am, however, a bit of a website idiot, and tried to paste the link to your book but it comes up as REALLY LONG LINK on my blog (www.secretwritersbusiness.com) so will try to get some technical assistance to sort that out.
You’re a great inspiration and someone I would like to see succeed

Congratulations, Leo.

A few days ago I decided to make a small donation in lieu of all the value I’ve received from this website — instead of donating, however, I simply bought the ZTD eBook, which due to nil overhead, counts the same as a donation. I must say, the ZTD honestly more useful to me than David Allen’s book Getting Things Done. What value for $9.95!

Even though all of the information in this new eBook is available from this website, us humans have a soft spot for things that come in nice packages, so I can certainly see the value in buying this.

Hi Leo

Wow - a ZTD ebook will save me a lot of time :-)

My apologies for the length of this comment, but you are such an inspiration. You have a favourite place in my ‘GTD folder’ on my links toolbar! Yes - I am trying to create a GTD system that includes increasing efficiency on the internet - so, with a list of online resources from another great site, lifehack.org - and your site (’Massive GTD resource list) -

- a ‘ZTD folder’ it will be instead! :-)
- with your new ebook in my ZTD desktop folder as a key reference

I am excited about your ebook. Its particularly relevant as a model, because my selfhelp4growth blog, which started as a hobby, needs to become more professional, to provide more value to my readers (and attract more readers!), as well as to help my new writing career goals.

(I have an incurable illness and lost my ‘day job’, but I am so excited about new opportunities to work from home as a freelance writer/editor - writing, coaching and project management are my passions and specialisations - so I need to get some more professional and structured online articles up to create a portfolio - rather than the ‘ad-hoc’ type of postings I have been doing when my blog started as a hobby). And I have already learned much from your site :-)

I digress though - I write here because I also think its a great idea to ‘package’ top quality blogs into ebooks. It saves so much time for the readers. It also enables us to give back to you :-)

And by packaging only some (a lot) of the content, this encourages people to keep coming back here for more! Such a wonderful idea and thank you for creating this for us.

I have no hesitation in buying your ebook and its great that you have also setup an affiliate program (definitely to be promoted on my site).

- I have already printed out so many of your articles, in creating my ZTD systems - so I can really start acting and working from home in my freelance writing career. I refuse to be on a disability pension! I want to have meaning and purpose in my life and to give back to others, and your site is helping me to achieve this :-)

I hope its ok to write this here(?) - I would also love to get in contact with you perhaps, although I know time is an issue for you, with so many readers. But your advice on how I can improve my own blog writing, once I start writing more structured postings, would be invaluable. If you do ever have the time, I would be so grateful if you could contact me, to help me on my way to my freelance writing goals, but I also understand if you are unable to.

(btw - I notice you have a freelance writing ebook advertised - I will also look at this. I would love to become a full-time blogger too, writing for my own and other blogs to help me earn a living and pay my medical bills. In this respect, have you ever thought about also creating a Zen ebook, where your articles are targeted at this niche market - ie. people wanting to become freelance writers/professional bloggers? This would be great if so!

Thank you again Leo :-)
Warm Regards
Meg

PS - if you do decide to have an audio version of your ebook, I would be happy to create one for you and your readers. I don’t know how ‘professional’ my voice would be - although I have done a lot of lecturing and public presentations - but if you are interested, feel free to ask :-)

Hi Leo, and fellow Zen Habits readers. I just finished reviewing Zen Habits Handbook for Life, and I was blown away. Sure, I’ve read these principles here before, but I was able to sit down and read it front to end, and got all these things back again. It was fun to see how many things I was already following, and great to be reminded of other things I still want to implement.

Once again, I highly recommend it. Feel free to read my review.

Gladly paid the $6.95 so I can unclutter - I have web archives of many of the blog articles for reading later, now I can delete these as this makes it much easier to catch up.

Will it be updated with new content at some point? Volume 2?

@John: Interesting idea, to have a volume 2. It’s definitely doable, but it really depends on demand. If you guys enjoy this ebook and want another down the road, I can work on that. Thanks for the suggestion!

@everyone else: I really appreciate all the encouragement! It’s always a bit scary putting out a new ebook or other type of writing, so to have people receive it warmly, as you all have, is very gratifying!

I second the idea of making this a physical book. Bound books are just so much nicer than printed and stapled or clipped PDFs.

There should be code you can paste into your blog for a “buy now” button that will ensure that you get a cut of the sales from your site. Don’t use the url for my site to link to the ebook … use the buy now button code or the “hop link” button code. Hope that helps!

Although I have read a high percentage of these articles before, I just had to get your ebook with them all organized into one tidy package. I just bought and downloaded the ebook and quickly flicked through it. I have to say it is beautiful in its simplicity and the presentation alone has a great calming effect. I’ve been a big fan of your writing for some time now and have adopted many of your ideas into my life to great effect. Now you have put together your writings into this ebook and created an affiliate program to go with it, I shall be sure to be highly recommending it to the subscribers on my list.

Thanks again, Leo. Please keep providing us with great high value content

This is excellent, Leo!

What I’ll do is read (or have someone read) each entry in the book, and then I’ll cross-reference it to the corresponding online entry. This is a tremendous tool for me as far as implementing my productivity system. Sure, it’s redundant, but that’s what makes this process so amazing!

You’ve done it again, Leo! Thanks for all your help!
