Merry Christmas everyone! As a gift, I’d like to share with you my companion to The Power of Less — a free ebook called “THRIVING ON LESS: Simplifying in a Tough Economy“.
Go here to download the ebook for free. (Please note: click on the link to go to the download page — don’t click “save as” to save the ebook.)
From the introduction:
The recent economic recession has a lot of people worried, about their jobs, their businesses, their homes and their bills. When your income is dropping or in jeopardy and you still have a mountain of bills to pay, things can get pretty scary.
However, tough economic times do not have to be a time of struggles! If you look for the opportunity in the middle of difficulty, as Mr. Einstein suggested, then tough economic times become an opportunity to transform your life.

Good job.
I like the blueberries. Simple but effective.
I’ve been a minimalist after some road trips and some life changing events. I learned to do without and make the most of what I’ve got. The biggest lesson for me though was that all you really take with you, is you, and road trips are a great test of your skills.
One of the surprising things about minimalism is why less is more. The secret is synthetic happiness. Basically when you have more choices you always feel an opportunity cost. When you have less options, you value your choices more.
The scary point is that you can be spoiled into unhappiness if you don’t know how it works. Synthetic happiness has been proven time and again to have the same impact as the real deal … but costs less and is simpler. Some might call it sour grapes, but others will just call it smart life.

@Roman: You might have done a “save as” for the download link — if you do, the file won’t be usable (about 28k I believe). Instead, click through the link and go to the download page. Then click on the download link to get the download started — it should be about 4 MB or so.
Sorry for the trouble!

Hmmm. The download didn’t work for me in Firefox (on a Mac) I clicked on the link (not right click) and Firefox automatically asked if I wanted to download or view. Firefox did not take me to the MediaFire site and it automatically downloaded the link In Safari I was taken to the MediaFire download page so I could properly save the document, not the link.
thanks!

Thanks Leo! Do you think you might offer “Power of Less” as a .pdf file (for pay)? I’m sure it will sell like hotcakes! (my biggest clutter problem is the overwhelming number of books I buy!)

Using Firefox on a Linux eeepc, I get to the mediafire site, but clicking the ’save to my files’ button gets me a ‘invalid user’ message.
ah, the wonders of modern technology… [wry grin]

Thanks a lot Leo! I will add this to the huge list of “things to read” I have after your last post.
By the way (and just because I am a little crazy) I wanted to share a move I just just saw (maybe you all saw it already, but it never came to the cinemas here so thats why I am happy to have found it)
Its call “Men On Wire”, its about the story of the guy who crossed the twin towers…really inspiring.
Merry Christmas people!

Hi Leo, I followed all your instructions but still can’t actually open the PDF. I even created a free acct on Media Fire and saved it to “My Files”. I then click on the file but it takes me to the download page again. Can you shed any light? Thanks . . . I look forward to the free download and the full on book!

Figured it out Leo . . . the “download” area looks like an ad to download hot jobs. I unchecked the hot jobs and clicked download, so I’ve got the book!

Hi guys … thanks for all the nice feedback!
As for the download problems … I need to find a better solution, as a lot of people have been getting confused or having technical issues. Will look for something tomorrow!
Oh, and I just found out that the actual book, The Power of Less, will be available for sale as an ebook and in Kindle format at all fine etailers!

Thanks Leo - this is a true demonstration of your Christmas spirit! May we all find it is in us to be as generous toward those in and around our lives. Oh - and thanks for reminding me to get cracking on an e-book giveaway for my site. I’ve previously written on How To Make Your Health Dollar Go Further and I think that this topic could be expanded on into a useful e-book.
Merry Christmas!

Zen Habits is where I go to get a bit of encouragement as waves of debt threaten to drown me.
Can’t get it to download now but know that’ll be corrected. I know it will be as insightful and practical as all your other writings.
May your generosity come back fivefold,

Dear Leo -
-
I bet I’m not the only one who has paid a small fortune for books on debt, productivity, and so forth- only to be disappointed- (advice about cashing out my 401K is not much help when my savings account is in the ashtray of my truck in small change). Now here it is, free, beautifully written, like a conversation with a wise friend.
Common sense - what a concept!
I’ve pre-ordered the Power of Less, too, and in your honor, paid by debit, not credit. :)

Several years ago I belonged to a site that at that time was not so popular. The site was dedicate to living debt free. It had some wonderful information on it. I’m glad to see more people moving to not only living but thriving with less. It’s time to thrive not just survive.
